Today the Italian webmonster www.italia.it, the Italian National Tourism Portal, recently put on-line by the government itself after three years of waiting is closed forever. The domaine Italia.it now is available for pourchase.It was developed by IBM, at the cost of 45.000.000 euro of public money(one euro per Italian), and they took 3,5 years to build it. Web and rank ltd said, the most expensive website ever built in the world.Being a public utility website it's amazing to see that it is not accessible (as WAI) but you need to download a few software and browse to specific sections of the site. Also, if you have a look at the code, you don't see DIVs, but just a lot of giant TABLEs.Italia.it is was the new Web portal for Italy, whose goal should be to emphasize and show to every surfer around the globe how great Italy is.The crappy web site was presented on Feb. 22, 2007 for Francesco Rutelli, Italian minister for cultural assets and Prime Minister announced www.italia.it . The result of the web site lunch is the complete disaster for the Italian internet community and the opinion of the world .
